Ian D’Agata is a wine writer and author of internationally renowned books, considered one of the leading experts in Italian wine, as well as wines from Alsace, Bordeaux and Canada.

On April 13th, D’Agata got the chance to taste the new vintages of Amarone della Valpolicella from the Famiglie Storiche, an association of 13 wineries that for generations have been producing Amarone.

We are very pleased to learn that all our Amarone wines achieved great scores:

  • 92 points 3 CRU Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2019

“Deep vibrant ruby. Austere chocolaty and herbal nuances to the red and dark fruit flavours. Closes a little warm and tannic on the long lively finish, with a rising peppery note…”.

  • 94 points VILLA RIZZARDI Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva 2019

“Finishes impressively long, with an earthy herbal cocoa note. As good as Guerrieri Rizzardi’s classic 2019 Amarone 3Cru is, this is much richer and longer….”

  • 95 points CALCAROLE Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva 2017

“A very laid-back Amarone in keeping with the characteristics of the year, this boasts truly lovely purity of flavour and much softer tannins than the other Amarone wines made by Guerrieri Rizzardi….”
